Recent Actions by the Board

At its September and December meetings, the Appalachian Chapter Board made several important decisions. The major ones that impact members are listed below.

1. The newsletter will be sent in email format with an option to continue receiving it in printed form. If you would like to receive this and future issues by mail, please notify us.

2. The national ASD has requested that local chapters who are able to, contribute $500 toward their headquarters restoration fund. The board voted to do so and a check was sent in December. The last contribution that we sent to the ASD was $100, in 2007.

3. We will continue serving drinks only before and during the break at chaper meetings.

4. Because we are lining up several nationally-known speakers who come at a higher price than local speakers, the non-member admission fee to our quarterly meetings is raised from $8 to $10, effective in February.

5. The Board is proposing two new amendments to the by-laws. The first makes more specific the responsibilities that each officer can assume. The second is needed so that we can apply for non-profit status with the IRS. Read the proposed amendments here.  They will be voted on at the February 20 meeting.

Officer Vacancies

Since the resignations of the Secretary and Treasurer on December 15, those positions remain vacant. The remainder of the board is currently negotiating the status of the Vice President. When that issue is resolved, we hope there will be members to fill those vacancies. We do need to elect or re-elect an at-large board member at the February 20 meeting, as Lee Barnes' term is ending.

Old Tapes Found

Marilyn Gasque has discovered a treasure trove of old audio and video tapes of chapter meetings. We plan to go through these during the winter to find out if any can be copied to DVD or audio CD.

DVDs available

DVDs of Marty Cain and Joey Korn, from the November 21 program, are available on wncdowsers.org and at the book sales table at chapter meetings.
